The things that keep me up at night
I woke up at 4:00 this morning. This seems to be a new regular thing, and I am not enjoying it. I keep finding myself thinking about the things that have happened since Andy drove a bus home and all the things we have ahead of us.
Oh, hang on. I just realized I never told you that part.
We bought our bus!!!
On Monday 2/10 Andy and his BFF Josh decided to drive down to Arkansas to look at a few buses that fit what we were looking for.
On Tuesday 2/11 Andy called me and told me that he looked at all the ones we had talked about, there was one that he liked and he could get it for quite a bit less than we thought we would.
On Wednesday 2/12 Andy and Josh pulled into Minnesota with a 2007 MCI E4500.
Unfortunately for them, Mother Nature decided to be a bitch that last day.
Andy drove the bus on Tuesday. From Bob Tucker Motors in Arkansas to Troy, Missouri where they decided to get a hotel room and stop for the night. The next morning, Josh decided he wanted to drive it for a while. Before they even pulled out of the hotel parking lot, the first snowflakes began to fall. It snowed the whole way back to the Twin Cities. Blowing snow, heavy wind, icy roads. Josh was crazy enough to drive the bus through all of it, while Andy drove the van behind him, filming half of the time for his YouTube channel.
There was a little drama on the way as a couple of minor issues with the bus made themselves known once they hit our northern version of wintry hell, and our hoped-for parking space fell through. Once again I find myself glad that Andy knows how to do shit. I can’t imagine how we’d do this if Andy wasn’t one of those guys that can fix just about anything.
Just a little disclaimer here; apparently Josh knows everyone. I thought Andy was exaggerating when he’d said that before. He was not. I honestly wonder if there is anyone around here that he doesn’t know. So, thanks to Josh, they found a place to park the bus that has power, plenty of room, and a building to store all the things in. Like 56 passenger seats from a coach bus.
It’s amazing how sometimes you can see that things are happening for a reason before you ever get to the point of looking back at it. Waiting for the right person to buy the house, waiting for the right bus to come our way, losing a parking space only to end up with one that works better for what we need.
We’ve had the bus for almost a month now. The inside is almost empty, the HVAC system is getting some major changes, and there are all kinds of things being bought. Never have I cringed more than when I pull out my card these days. I am so used to having no extra money to spend, that spending a few hundred dollars without question still makes me pause. Ah, well, I have a few months to get used to that and then hopefully…hopefully, the bus will be done and it will be time to hit the road!
